Bad Spelling and The Daily Detritus

Bad Spelling and The Daily Detritus

I have an admission. I have been misspelling ‘detritus’ as ‘detrius’ all my life. If I’ve used the word detrius in this blog before, please forgive me.  But now I know – and The Daily Detritus taught it to me.

In what is my new favourite site, artist Chris Town displays his complex collages using found objects.  He just finished up a week-long exhibition at China Heights where his assortment of urban accoutrements was exhibited in all its gritty, grubby glory.

It takes some thinking to figure out what it’s all about.  According to Town, “Thematically my work swings between two major fields. On one hand there is the deeply personal, (borderline psychotic) exploration of the subconscious filtered through an overwhelming need to try and make sense of myself. On the other hand my work presents lucid translations of our current social conditions, rife with an overt criticism, yet simultaneously bolstered by an underlying optimism. Through this exploration of what is around and inside me, I have created a visceral tapestry of urban decay laden with sentimentality and full of life”.

Below are some of my faves. All pics copywright Chris Town.
