Blueeyes Magazine was not named after Frank Sinatra. In fact, it wasn’t really named after anything at all, except perhaps a waiter named Curtis and a turkey-bacon club sandwich. Don’t ask.
Anyway, Issue 18 is out at the moment and features some amazing projects, such as the latest Texas Chainsaw Mass Choir roadtrip (best band name ever), the decline of the Titusville, Pennsylvania, steel industry, and kids hanging out at the giant Skatopia skate park near Rutland, Ohio.
My favourite section is called ‘First Look’, a preview of upcoming photography book releases. This month previews Brian Finke’s intriguing Flight Attendants.
John Loomis, Editor-in-Chief, describes Blueeyes as “an online documentary photozine devoted to publishing new long-term project work”. Which is really a very modest way to describe this beautiful, subtle and tightly-edited site – not to mention the cutest logo ever.
Definitely an ally of the republic.
